A Christmas Romance in the Heart of Winter

Second Chance Christmas is set in the fictional town of Bindarra Creek, and as the title suggests, it's all about getting a second chance at love during the festive season. There's something magical about Christmas stories – they have a way of bringing out hope, forgiveness, and the possibility of new beginnings, even when things seem impossible.

Without spoiling anything, this story follows characters who thought their chance at love had passed them by, only to discover that sometimes the best gifts come when we least expect them. It's about family, community, and the courage it takes to open your heart again.

A New Writing Experiment

This book was special for me in another way – I dictated about 99% of the first draft! It was a completely new approach for me, and I learned so much from the process. It was a different process to speak a story aloud rather than typing it, and I found it helped me tap into the natural rhythm of dialogue in a different way.

I also tried something new with my editor this time around. Instead of polishing the manuscript myself before sending it off, I sent her the raw first draft so she could do a structural edit first. It felt vulnerable sharing such messy work, but it turned out to be incredibly efficient. Rather than me spending time perfecting chapters that might need major changes, she could focus on the big picture first. It's not the usual way of working, but after years of collaboration, we trust each other completely.

Why Christmas in July Was Perfect

Setting this as a "Christmas in July" story was such a treat to write. As an Australian author, I'm used to Christmas stories being set during our blazing hot summer – think beach barbecues and air conditioning rather than cozy fires and warm blankets. But there's something wonderfully atmospheric about being able to write a Christmas romance where the characters can actually enjoy mulled wine (or coffee!) by a fireplace without melting!

The winter setting allowed me to embrace all those classic Christmas romance elements – the coziness, the intimacy of people drawing together against the cold, the magic of snow (even if it's not common in most of Australia) - or at least a storm!

Welcome to Bindarra Creek

This book is part of something really special – a shared world collaboration with other romance authors. While Second Chance Christmas is a complete standalone story that you can enjoy on its own, it's set in the fictional town of Bindarra Creek alongside books by other talented writers.

Our first Bindarra Creek books were released ten years ago and the town has continued to grow! It's wonderful to be part of a shared world like this. Each author brings their own characters and stories to the town, but we all get to play in the same sandbox. It means readers can visit Bindarra Creek through different authors' eyes and discover new favorites along the way.
